Jennifer Olivier and her ride Meacham Roccocco are first timers at the Mitsubishi Motors Grassroots Championships this year, finishing in 21st place.
Originally from South Africa, Jennifer has lots of support here at the event including hew new husband; their visit to Badminton is in fact their official honeymoon!
She commented on her ride across country: “He was amazing he gave me everything, I’m so proud of him! He couldn’t be broken in and he is still sharp now, I bought him originally for my husband but he and I hit it off.
“I thought I would have problems at the step up to the double [fence 17] but it rode really well, I walked the course three times and thought I could do it all OK but the atmosphere here is a game changer. You don’t get all the people at normal events, you can pretend you are doing the 4* it is an incredible experience.
“Two years ago I never dreamed I would be here, I remember watching this on TV in South Africa and thinking I’ll never even get to go and watch! It is an event that everyone aspires to do, the Grassroots Championships is something that you can work hard at and achieve, it lets you experience top level competition.
“We have been treated like queens, the hospitality, support everything, it’s been incredible. We have seven horses at home and my husband is my chauffeur, groom and therapist and this is the honeymoon we never had.”
